The Vicenza prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the death due to septicemia of Loris Comparin, the 46-year-old former karate champion from Thiene (Vicenza).

The investigation will have to evaluate any responsibility for the athlete's death, so much so that an autopsy has already been ordered and at the same time the funeral scheduled for tomorrow in Arsiero, another location in the Vicenza area, has been cancelled.

Comparin, after complaining of throat discomfort, went to his GP who prescribed him some medication. However, continuing to feel unwell, on May 15th he went to the emergency room of the hospital where he had been discharged and then returned the following day and was then admitted to hospital.

The throat infection apparently spread and after two weeks the 46-year-old died.

In his career as an athlete, Comparin had won many Italian titles and was a 4-time world karate champion.
