A New Year's Eve tragedy occurred in Ostia , where a man died after a firecracker exploded. The incident occurred on Via Cortemaggiore around 5:30 PM. An ambulance arrived on the scene and found the man— a 63-year-old Moldovan —on the ground with injuries to his abdomen and face. The man, who was alone at the time of the explosion, died in the street.

The Carabinieri of Ostia are investigating the incident. According to initial information, the firecracker appears to be a crude device purchased from illegal dealers. The explosion apparently exploded suddenly, striking the man in the chest and hands, causing a hemorrhage.
