Another cyclist hit and killed in Milan : it is the fifth accident involving bicycles and heavy vehicles since the beginning of the year for what is becoming a real emergency in the Milanese city.

Victim this morning a 28-year-old girl, overwhelmed in viale Caldara, Porta Romana area, by a truck. According to an initial reconstruction, the young woman was to the left of the truck used for earth transport, whose body was empty, near a traffic light. Investigate the local police.

Also in Milan in June, a 60-year-old cyclist was run over and killed by a cement mixer in piazza Durante, near piazzale Loreto. On 8 May, a lorry had killed a man of Chinese origin in via Comasina. On April 20, a 39-year-old woman had lost her life on her bicycle, always overwhelmed and killed by a cement mixer in via Francesco Sforza. In February, a 38-year-old woman died, hit by a heavy vehicle on the corner of Piazzale Loreto and Viale Brianza.

At the origin of this morning's tragedy there would not be a "blind spot", i.e. the moment in which the driver of a heavy vehicle, turning right, is unable to see any people or bicycles alongside the truck.

From October 1st in Milan the circulation of heavy vehicles will be prevented without sensors for detecting the blind spot in the rear view mirror on the basis of a provision by the Giunta. The resolution modifies the regulation of Area B, the ztl almost as large as the whole city, and prevents the ban on access and circulation in the city for vehicles starting from 3.5 tons not equipped with detection systems. For other means, time has been given to adjust.
