More than two thousand fans at the funeral of Sinisa Mihajlovic , who died on December 16 at the age of 53 after a long battle with cancer.

In addition to his family, the players from Lazio, Sampdoria and Bologna, the last team he coached , with all the management, there were many friends and colleagues, such as the Cagliari coach Fabio Liverani, and again Roberto Mancini ( who carried the coffin), Angelo Peruzzi, Vincenzo Montella. The farewell to the former Serbian-Italian footballer and coach was held in the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri in Piazza della Repubblica in Rome, with the ceremony celebrated by Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi, archbishop of Bologna.

"Hello Sinisa, one of us," read one of the banners displayed by the fans.

Also present were the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri, the minister for sport and youth, Andrea Abodi, the president of Coni, Giovanni Malagò, the players of Lazio, with the management and the president Claudio Lotito, the coach of the biancocelesti Maurizio Sarri, the former president of Sampdoria Massimo Ferrero and again Francesco Totti, Bruno Conti, Daniele De Rossi, Urbano Cairo and Gianni Morandi.

In the face of illness, the archbishop said, Sinisa "never ran away . He faced it courageously, giving it to others as well. He did so by showing the sweet fragility of a warrior, which is such because he knows how to get up or tries. Fragility is a door, not a wall." A thought also for Mihajlovic's family: «We gather around them and those who are related to him. Sinisa wanted to grow old with so many grandchildren, he was someone capable of giving a chance to those who had never had one and I would like you to feel the affection of Mother Church today. Precisely because she is a mother she will never give in to her children's pain. It is a painful greeting that leaves us incredulous».
