Nothing to be done for Matilde Lorenzi : the young Italian ski promise who fell yesterday during training on the glacier of Val Senales, in Alto Adige, died during the night .

The news was reported in a post by the Ministry of Defense .

The Defense and Minister Guido Crosetto, in a post published on social media, "express their deepest condolences and join in an ideal embrace with the family and colleagues of Corporal Matilde Lorenzi, an Army athlete and promising Italian skier, who tragically passed away following a very serious accident that occurred during a training session."

The young woman from Turin, who grew up in Sestriere and would have turned 20 on November 15 , was skiing down the Grawand G1 slope yesterday morning on a fairly flat stretch when - according to reconstructions - her skis separated and the edges lost contact with the snow cover . Matilde Lorenzi then fell, violently hitting her face on the icy ground . At that point one of the skis came loose and the skier tumbled off the slope.

Immediate aid was provided, with the patient being transferred to the intensive care unit of the San Maurizio hospital in Bolzano, where the doctors' treatment, however, proved to be in vain.
