He returned with a fever from Portugal, where he had participated in World Youth Day, and died in the San Gerardo hospital in Monza.
The community of Marnate, in the Varese area, is shaken by the death of Luca Re Sartù, a 24-year-old boy who had participated in WYD with the group of young people from the San Luigi oratory, where he was a catechist.
The boy, who after graduating had started working in a company in the area, began to have a fever in Portugal, where he had stopped for a few days with friends even after meeting with Pope Francis.
He had been visited in Portugal and treated with medicines, but on his return to Bergamo airport the fever showed no sign of passing and he was taken to the Castellanza hospital, where his conditions worsened further and he had cardiac arrest. Then the transfer to Monza, where he died on Friday.
Tomorrow the autopsy should clarify the cause of death, the father hypothesizes in the local press a very serious bacterial infection: «We think he contracted staphylococcus. The doctors were very good when they recovered him from cardiac arrest, but they understood the seriousness of the situation and transferred him to the coronary unit of the Monza hospital. He never recovered."
