The conditions are now "ripe" to impose the vaccination obligation in Italy.

This was stated by the coordinator of the Scientific Technical Committee Franco Locatelli, recalling that Italy is in a phase of growth of “almost exponential” infections, with a weekly incidence “more than doubled in seven days”.

"I would absolutely not embrace the idea of letting the virus run", Locatelli observes, "even if the British data show that with Omicron hospitalizations are reduced to a third, a marked increase in infections would have a heavy impact on the health system".

In Italy, the CTS coordinator remembers, "1.3 million people over 60 are not vaccinated, it is a group of compatriots who today risk a lot".

The choice of obligation "is up to politics", he remarks. Then he says his: “I have always been a proponent of the optional vaccine. But now as a health technician I say that the conditions are ripe for the obligation to respond to the health needs of patients with Covid and with different diseases ".

From Great Britain not only the data on Omicron, also those on the efficacy of the third dose, “88% in preventing hospitalization”. As for vaccines for children, “no minimum safety alarms”, he remarks.
