No life imprisonment, but a sentence of acquittal before the Court of Assizes of Appeal for Pasquale Concas, the 55-year-old originally from Villagrande Strisaili and resident in Tortolì accused of the murder of the Modena lawyer Elena Morandi.

Concas is already in prison, with a 24-year sentence, for the murder of Arietta Mata, which occurred in Gaggio di Castelfranco at the beginning of 2018. In the past, he had been convicted for the murder of a third woman, the first in chronological order, which occurred in Olbia in 1994, again for the purpose of robbery.

According to the prosecution, Concas also killed the 56-year-old lawyer, found dead in her home in Modena on September 29, 2017, to steal a sum of 300 euros from her before setting fire to the victim's home with the aim of simulating a fire. Last April, however, the Court of Cassation, following the appeal filed by the defense, annulled the life sentence, sending the case back for a new appeal trial.

At the hearing, an engineer who is an expert in fires, a dermatology specialist from the ASL burns center and the medical examiner who was immediately indicated by the prosecutor were heard. The three were then confronted with the other consultants. At the end of the discussion, the attorney general asked for the life sentence to be confirmed. The defense, represented by the lawyer Alessandro Betti, asked for the appeal to be accepted and therefore the sentence to be reformed, with acquittal.

The court came out of the council chamber around 4:00 p.m., issuing a reform sentence, partially accepting the defense's appeal and acquitting Concas of the charge of murder and arson, requalifying the crime of robbery as a burglary in a home . The man was therefore sentenced to one year and four months. Ninety days for the reasons.
