The doorman of the London hotel , a four-star hotel near the station in the Piedmontese city, was killed in the night , according to investigators at the height of a violent assault attributable to a robbery that ended badly .

To find Alberto Faravelli , 69, poured into a pool of blood in front of the hotel reception , it was a passer-by who gave the alarm, around 1.30 am last night.

The carabinieri are working on the spot, with scientific experts. He is a 46-year-old Italian, homeless, whose personal details have not been disclosed by the investigators at the moment. The motive has yet to be established with certainty.

Faravelli was about to retire and lived in Tortona alone, since his elderly mother died last Christmas. "We saw it around 10.30 pm, on our return from dinner, then we didn't hear anything - says a couple staying in the hotel - We don't really know what happened, it's terrible ...".
