Which Italian cities offer the most sunshine hours? This is the question behind the study conducted by Holidu , one of Europe's leading search engines for vacation rentals and apartments, which analyzed the top 50 Italian locations based on average hours of sunshine per month .

Leading this special ranking are the islands of Sicily and Sardinia. The city with the most hours of sunshine is Syracuse , with an average of 272.61 hours per month, closely followed by Catania with 272.39 hours: the difference of 0.22 hours equates to about 13 minutes more on average per month for Syracuse compared to Catania. Rounding out the top 3 is Cagliari , the Sardinian capital, which takes the podium with an average of 266.02 hours of sunshine per month .

In fourth and fifth place, representing Puglia, are Andria (249.83 hours) and Bari (248.44 hours). Sardinia reappears in this ranking just outside the top 10. In eleventh place is Sassari with an average monthly working hours of 243.60 , just behind Rome (ninth with 246.21 hours) and Foggia (tenth with 243.83 hours), but ahead of Naples (twelfth with 242.09 hours).

The ranking was drawn up by extracting the average number of hours of sunshine per month in each city for the years from 2012 to 2026. The 50 main Italian cities were examined: the 47 most populous according to the latest ISTAT data of 30 September 2025, with the addition of the three regional capitals not represented among the first 47 already selected, namely Aosta , Campobasso and Potenza .

In the event of an equivalent number of average hours of sunshine per month between two or more locations, priority in the ranking was given to the city with the highest average temperature ; in the event of further equality, priority in the ranking was given to the city with a greater number of inhabitants .
