It was that handful of seconds that likely saved the life of a 44-year-old woman in Ventimiglia. A handful of seconds and the courage to jump off the terrace.

Her husband is now in prison, charged with attempted murder. She, on the other hand, is in the hospital with cuts on her face and hands and a serious back injury.

Violence this morning in Ventimiglia: Neighbors heard the screams and saw the woman on the first-floor terrace, her husband holding her by the hair and hitting her with scissors. She tried to block the blows with her hands, but a scissor blow slashed her face. "I'll kill you, I'll kill you," he screamed. He then reentered the house, perhaps to get a knife, and at that moment the victim climbed over the balcony railing, relying on the clothesline.

But the cable broke under her weight and the woman fell into the courtyard: after falling at least three meters, she hit her back hard.

Emergency services, including the Carabinieri, arrived immediately. The 44-year-old woman was immediately transferred by air ambulance to Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra Ligure for serious back trauma, while the Carabinieri arrested her husband for attempted murder.
