A 43-year-old Moroccan man, Abderrahim Fakir, died late this morning in Pilastro, Bologna . According to reports, a police check was underway on Via Svevo : several residents called 113 after the man began acting out in the garage.

A patrol car arrived on the scene, as did 911. The man reportedly punched the police car. The officers, also in the presence of paramedics, then sprayed the man with pepper spray and secured him with zip ties. According to initial reports, the 42-year-old subsequently felt unwell and died.

A video circulating among residents of Bologna's Pilastro neighborhood reportedly captures a fight between the man who died after being arrested and the police officers.

Fakir, 43, of Moroccan origin but who had been in Italy since he was seven, had a criminal record. His relatives, a brother and sister, report that he also had health problems. The judicial authorities will order an autopsy to determine the cause of death. His body was removed at 4:30 PM.
