He stabbed a passer-by in Concorezzo, in Brianza, then presented himself at the police station to appear. The 64-year-old explained to the military that he had injured a stranger motivating the gesture with: "I am depressed because of the divorce." He still had the bloodstained knife in his pocket.

The 81-year-old attacked was found on the ground in the cemetery area with a deep injury to his right side. The ambulance rushed him to the San Gerardo hospital in Monza where he was hospitalized in danger of life.

He was reportedly approached by the 64-year-old at the exit of the cemetery where he had gone to pray at his wife's grave. The attacker asked him the time and then slashed him twice.

The 64-year-old, in a confused state, said he was in a period of deep depression following the divorce and the loss of his job. He originally intended to take his own life, only to decide to take out his anger on a random person. He was arrested and taken to prison in Monza on charges of attempted murder and unjustified carrying of a knife.
