On Thursday, Flying Squad officers arrested Roberto Palumbo, head of Nephrology at Sant'Eugenio Hospital, and a businessman who sells dialysis equipment on corruption charges.
The doctor, who was taken to prison, is accused of having red-handedly pocketed a bribe of approximately 3,000 euros as part of an investigation involving 12 people.
The investigating judge has yet to schedule a validation hearing. At the heart of the proceedings, which are being handled by the team that handles crimes in public administration, is a reported bribe ring related to the management of dialysis patients who were discharged and "diverted" to private facilities.
