Tragedy yesterday on Etna, where a member of the Sicilian Alpine and Speleological Rescue (Sass) died during a rescue operation.

Sass himself makes it known: "Salvatore Laudani, friend and colleague, passed away, all Sass joins the pain of the family", reads a statement. "At the moment we cannot add anything else and everything will be clarified in the next few hours".

The rescue intervention took place on the southern slope of Etna, at 2,246 meters above sea level. A man, properly equipped for the excursion, slipped into one of the gullies overlooking the Valle del Bove, fracturing his leg.

The rescuers, even if hampered by the snow, the freezing wind and the fog, managed to reach the injured man and bring him to safety. Unfortunately, a rescuer died in the intervention, it has not yet been specified how, if due to an illness or an accident.
