In Colle Isarco, in Alto Adige, an investigation has been opened to ascertain the causes of the death of a man, who died last night following an illness, after the police used the taser to stop him.
The Bolzano Prosecutor's Office ordered the autopsy as part of a criminal case currently underway against unknown persons.
According to an initial reconstruction of the incident, the victim had called 112 in a clear state of agitation, reporting the presence of unspecified people outside his home.
The police, who intervened with medical personnel, then attempted to enter the apartment but the man, in a state of confusion presumably due to the use of alcohol and drugs, refused to open the door, going into a rage. Then he suddenly jumped from the window, falling from a height of about 2 and a half metres.
Despite the violent fall, the man got up and attempted to attack the soldiers, who then used the taser to stop him.
The medical staff subsequently intervened to proceed with the treatment, but after a few minutes the man felt ill, going into cardiac arrest: the doctor then carried out resuscitation maneuvers, which however were in vain.
During the subsequent search of the man's room, the police found some doses of cocaine and alcohol, believed, as mentioned, to be the cause of the man's serious state of agitation and confusion.
Autopsy tests will now shed full light on the causes of death.
