Panic on the streets of Grottaminarda, in the Avellino area, last night. A man died after being shot in the face while he was in Corso Vittorio Veneto, crowded with people on a normal Saturday evening.

The shooter was apparently a 44-year-old local man who has already been stopped by the police. He remained at the scene and did not resist.

It is not clear why he fired at the victim, a 46-year-old Ukrainian national. Seriously injured, the latter was taken to hospital in Ariano Irpino but doctors were unable to save his life.

Perhaps the two had had an argument the previous day.
