The life sentence for Alessandro Impagnatiello, who confessed to the murder of Giulia Tramontano, his 29-year-old partner, who was 7 months pregnant and killed with 37 stab wounds in their home in Senago, in the Milan area, was confirmed on appeal .

The verdict came after two hours of deliberation and at the end of a half-day appeal trial. The second-instance judges excluded the aggravating circumstance of premeditation, confirming those of cruelty and cohabitation.

Impagnatiello remained impassive as the sentence was read. When the president of the Court Ivana Caputo pronounced the verdict, he was standing in the front benches next to his lawyer Giulia Geradini and had no reaction. The victim's parents were in tears.

Deputy Attorney General Maria Pia Gualtieri had asked for confirmation of the maximum sentence imposed in the first instance, as had lawyer Giovanni Cacciapuoti, who is assisting Giulia Tramontano's family.
The defense of Impagnatiello , accused of aggravated voluntary homicide, procuring abortion and concealment of a corpse, had instead requested the exclusion of the aggravating circumstances of premeditation and cruelty and the recognition of mitigating circumstances. It aimed to get him 30 years .

Lawyer Giulia Geradini asked for the exclusion of the aggravating circumstances of premeditation and cruelty, reiterating several times the "clumsy" and in some cases even "self-sabotaging" conduct of the former barman after the murder . A series of behaviors that, in her opinion, would demonstrate that the crime was not premeditated.

Furthermore, the defense claims that the former barman wanted his partner, who was seven months pregnant, not to continue with the pregnancy. Furthermore, the examination carried out on the victim's body "excluded" that Giulia could have attempted to defend herself, which "leads to the conclusion with certainty that she did not have time to realize what was happening and therefore to realize that her child was also losing his life." Asking for mitigating circumstances to be recognized, the lawyer recalled that the man arrived at the murder because of the "narcissistic wound" caused by the unmasking .

Giulia, 29, was stabbed to death with 37 wounds on May 27, 2023, in their home in Senago, in the Milan area. That same day, a few hours earlier, she had met and confronted the woman with whom Impagnatiello had a parallel relationship, thus causing his “castle of lies” to collapse.

After the murder, the man attempted to burn the body twice , then decided to hide it behind some garages a few hundred meters from the couple's home in Via Novella. In the following days he faked his partner's disappearance, going to file a report himself, and continuing to send her messages.
