After a year in which he was in a coma due to the consequences of a violent slap, Giancarlo Masala had died in hospital. And now his alleged attacker has been arrested for manslaughter by the carabinieri.

Last October, the 62-year-old worker had a fight with a neighbor, perhaps he had refused to do him a favor, and he had struck him. The man was found dying in via Giacomo Del Duca in La Rustica, Rome, outside the Ater apartment where he lived with his wife and one of two children. He was having severe bleeding and a skull fracture. Immediate rescue and transport to the Sandro Pertini hospital where he remained in a coma until last October 17.

Investigations revealed that Masala should have kept an eye on a luxury car that had been left running outside his home. The car, however, was gone and the fact would have triggered a sort of punishment.

The carabinieri executed a precautionary custody order in prison against a 28-year-old boxer from Rome, considered to be a serious suspect in the manslaughter.
