Today – December 12 – the general strike called by the CGIL: factories, schools, healthcare and transport are shut down.

The union has called for protests against an "unjust and foolish" budget, as its secretary Maurizio Landini calls it.

The strike will affect all sectors, both public and private, for the entire day. The exceptions are air transport, which was already on strike on December 17th, and ATAC staff in Rome, who walked out last Tuesday.

Local public transport—buses, metro, and trams—will be shut down for 24 hours, in compliance with the designated time slots established at the local level. For railways, staff will be shut down from midnight to 9:00 PM.

Long-distance trains are guaranteed according to agreements with the companies (Trenitalia, Italo) and those scheduled for the 6:00-9:00 and 18:00-21:00 time slots for regional transport. Demonstrations are organized in all cities.
