The four alleged perpetrators of the attack on the gay couple which occurred in recent days in Rome have been identified by the police. According to what we learn, there are three men and a woman, in their early twenties and with no criminal record. The two boys, accompanied by the lawyer, would have been interviewed this morning by the Eur police and would have recognized the four from the photos.
An information should be sent to the Prosecutor's Office in the next few hours. From an initial reconstruction, it would seem that everything started from a road dispute which then degenerated into kicks, punches, belts and homophobic insults towards the gay couple. Violence immortalized in a video later released by the Gay Center.
The two young people were crossing the road when the car arrived with the four on board. «As they were crossing the road, hand in hand, a car crossed them and then stopped – reconstructs the Gay Center -. A frightened cry from one of the two boys sparked the violence. Four people (three men and a woman) got out of the car and beat them, shouting homophobic insults, without anyone intervening, except to film what happened." After going to the emergency room - it is explained - the victims decided to report the incident to the police and called the Gay Help Line, anti-homobitransphobia contact center, to receive legal support.
«We can no longer accept living in a society where violence, like the one we have suffered, is still a sad reality - say the two boys attacked in a note from the Gay Center -. We are tired of having to be afraid of walking hand in hand, of constantly looking over our shoulders, of living with the constant anxiety of being victims of senseless acts. In addition to the physical pain of the beating, we were deeply hurt by the indifference of those who witnessed the scene. Instead of intervening to help us, these people preferred to film what happened and publish it on social media, mocking our pain. Reviewing the video, we were shocked by the ferocity with which we were attacked, without anyone fearing the serious consequences that such an act could have."
