A 4-year-old boy fell from a second-story balcony of his home , suffering serious trauma and injuries.

It happened late yesterday afternoon in a house in Osnago , a town in Brianza in the province of Lecco.

According to an initial reconstruction of the incident, the little boy's mother had gone down to the street to pick up another child at the school bus stop , when the 4-year-old boy , perhaps because he had leaned too far over the railing, fell from the balcony of the house. The father was at work. The family, of Nigerian origin, has lived in the village for several years.

The alarm was raised and the emergency helicopter arrived on site with the Areu medical team, who took him to the hospital in Bergamo.

The child's conditions appeared serious to the first responders - who found him conscious - so serious that he had to be admitted as a matter of urgency to the Papa Giovanni XXIII hospital in Bergamo.

The Carabinieri are investigating the incident.
