Tragedy on a school trip.
A 19-year-old girl, Aurora Bellini, a student at the Manetti-Porciatti surveying institute in Grosseto, died on the ferry that was supposed to take her class, the fourth-grade computer science major, from Naples to Palermo.
The girl, it seems, collapsed on the floor once she returned to the cabin last night. Her companions raised the alarm.
Rescuers reached the ferry off the coast of Naples: a Coast Guard patrol boat and 118 personnel intervened, who also sent a doctor on board. Attempts to save the young woman were in vain; she died shortly after.
The body was transported to the hospital morgue to await an autopsy.
