Over 6 million household items with the false “Made in Italy” label have been seized by the Turin Finance Police. The objects, actually imported from China, Pakistan and Turkey, if placed on the market would have yielded a profit of around 10 million euros.

In recent months the Green Basques had already noticed, on the shelves of some shops, articles advertised with the symbolism of the tricolor flag, but produced in Asia. Sure of being faced with massive fraud, they launched investigations to reconstruct the entire supply chain, identifying various deposits between Turin and some municipalities in the provinces of Naples, Barletta-Trani, Macerata and Mantua.

The goods coming from abroad were presented to customs in primary packaging with no indications attributable to a domestic origin while, inside them, typical symbols of Italianity were affixed to deceive the final customer.

Seven entrepreneurs will have to answer for the crimes of fraud in the trade and sale of industrial products with misleading signs.
