Eight swimmers were poisoned by chlorine fumes from the swimming pool of a sports club in Mentana, just outside Rome.

Among them, a 5-year-old boy rescued with a red code and 4 others - between 10 and 15 years old - with a yellow code.

Around 3:30 PM, when firefighters arrived to provide assistance, they detected a high level of chlorine fumes, the inhalation of which may have caused the reported illnesses.

All fifty people present were evacuated , and the club was temporarily closed. The Carabinieri were also on site.

The 5-year-old boy was taken to Sant'Andrea Hospital in Rome.
