The single-judge court of Rome has sentenced Adriano Panzironi to 2 years and 8 months in prison: the “diet guru” is accused of practicing medicine without a license.
The judge also sentenced Panzironi's brother, Roberto, to one year and four months in prison, accused of complicity in the crime. The requests of the Capital Prosecutor's Office were therefore accepted.
According to the prosecution, Adriano Panzironi "illegally practiced the medical profession to a large audience of listeners" of a television program. According to the indictment, "he administered, even in a personalized form, following subsequent contacts made through call center operators and conversations with individual users via Facebook, detailed indications on the diet and nutritional programs and methods, scientifically classifiable in terms of diet, prescribing the intake of food supplements that he himself marketed online."
Supplements deemed to be of "potential harmfulness" if "ingested without medical supervision". All this "by spreading the book he himself wrote entitled 'Living 120 Years'". The provincial medical associations of Rome, Venice, Naples and Milan have joined the proceedings as civil parties. The order of journalists of Lazio is also an injured party.
