Died after liposuction surgery in a private clinic in Rome, her body "full of infections" .
And now the relatives of Simonetta Kalfus, 62 years old and resident in Ardea (Rome), want to see things clearly.
On March 6, the woman underwent surgery, without her relatives knowing, "an anesthetist friend accompanied her," Danilo Pizi, the husband of the victim's daughter, explained to Il Messaggero. Immediately afterward, she began to feel pain, which the surgeon considered normal and prescribed her an antibiotic.
But the situation worsens and on March 11 the family takes Simonetta to the emergency room in Pomezia: drip, negative CT scan and discharge, with continuation of the antibiotic treatment .
Nothing to be done, the situation continues to worsen. The next day the surgeon goes to Simonetta's house to give her another IV and on March 13 the woman's conditions are critical. The anesthetist takes her to the Grassi hospital in Ostia, where he works, and has her admitted. The woman informs her daughter of the hospitalization, but from that moment on she no longer answers the phone. Simonetta Kalfus is in a pharmacological coma due to ischemia, she has a very high fever. During the night between March 17 and 18, the doctors inform the family: the woman is dead .
The tests, carried out in the following days by a consultant, reveal that liposuction could have been the cause of death . The son-in-law explains that the operation was supposed to concern only the buttocks, "but fat was removed everywhere, even from under the chin", and "the body was full of infections" .
For this reason the family members are pointing the finger at the surgeon and have filed a complaint with the police: "That surgeon is a repeat offender, he had already been convicted a year ago for a breast operation on a girl" .
