The Council of Ministers has approved a decree allocating over one billion euros for the severe weather emergency caused by the devastating passage of Cyclone Harry across Sardinia, Sicily, and Calabria.

The measure includes " urgent interventions to address the emergency caused by the exceptional meteorological events that, starting from January 18, 2026, affected the territory of the Calabria Region, the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, and the Sicily Region, as well as further urgent measures to address the Niscemi landslide and for civil protection."

"The Council of Ministers' approval of the decree for the bad weather emergency, with a total allocation of over one billion euros , represents a concrete and timely response to support the communities affected by Cyclone Harry in Sardinia, Calabria and Sicily," stated Undersecretary of the Interior Wanda Ferro .

The Council of Ministers has also allocated €5 million to support tourism in the three regions. Minister Daniela Santanchè explained, "We will focus our efforts on an international communications and promotion campaign , as requested by the Regions and trade associations themselves, to prevent the already significant damage suffered by Sicily, Calabria, and Sardinia from being compounded by damage to their image that would jeopardize tourism."

At the same meeting, the Council of Ministers also approved the Energy Decree, which includes measures to reduce bills, "particularly for vulnerable families and businesses."
