He was "absent" at a police check when he was under house arrest for having run over, killing, two 16-year-old girls in Rome in the Corso Francia area.

For this reason , the Rome Prosecutor's Office has ordered the direct summons to trial for Pietro Genovese, son of the director Paolo. The twenty-year-old was definitively sentenced to five years and four months in prison for that double road homicide, which occurred on 22 December 2019 and in which Gaia von Freymann and Camilla Romagnoli lost their lives.

A tragic story which could, however, have further procedural consequences for the accusation made by prosecutor Roberto Felici. The new proceeding is linked to what happened on the afternoon of January 16, 2021 when Genovese was under house arrest. That day the carabinieri from the Parioli company went to the house of the twenty-year-old's family, in the Trieste neighborhood, to carry out a ritual check. The soldiers then called the house several times but did not receive a response.

The police, despite being in possession of the suspect's mobile phone, did not try to contact him and from the surveillance cameras in the building it does not appear that Genovese had left the house. In the service report, which later came to the attention of the magistrates of Piazzale Clodio, the carabinieri wrote that they had made "numerous attempts first on the intercom of the building and subsequently by directly ringing the bell at the front door of the house, without receiving any response, until the following 6.04 pm".

So much so that the failure to answer the intercom triggered the charge of escape and the prosecutor requested a new trial. Genovese was released again on 21 October 2021. The judges of the Court of Appeal of the Capital, as required by law for final sentences, eliminated the obligation to stay that had been imposed since July two years ago when the sentence of 5 years and four months became final after the ratification of the agreement in second instance. Genovese is now awaiting the hearing before the execution judges who will have to decide on how to serve the remaining sentence, approximately 3 years and 7 months. It is not excluded that the young man could be entrusted to social services.
