Cigarette lit on the carpet at home, elderly woman dies of suffocation

An elderly woman died this morning from a fire that broke out in her home in Quistello, in the Mantua area.

The woman, who lived alone, was reportedly suffocated by the smoke caused by a cigarette butt that fell on a carpet . Neighbors became aware of what happened, alerted by the cloud that had invaded the stairwell.

The alarm went off immediately but when help arrived for the woman there was nothing more they could do.
