A 19-year-old tourist was reported and fined for carving his initials on a wall of the Colosseum , between the first tier and the atrium.

It happened in the afternoon, when the boy was with some friends visiting the monument. His gesture, however, attracted the attention of a woman , who immediately alerted the security .

The young man, of Ukrainian origins , was immediately stopped and the officers of the Celio police station were contacted . The 19-year-old was taken to the police station , where he was reported and fined .

"The intervention of the police forces who stopped and sanctioned the author of the new act of vandalism against the Colosseum is good," said the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri. "In a city rich in treasures that are the heritage of humanity, there certainly can't be room for hooligans and idiots."
