A Canadair crashed after crashing on the slopes of Etna, in the Linguaglossa area, where it was in action to help put out a vast fire.

Rescuers, carabinieri and 118 personnel intervened on the spot, but for the pilots on board there was nothing to do: they died in the crash.

From what we learn, the aircraft had recently refueled at sea, in the area in front of Giarre, and then resumed the fire extinguishing operation that developed in the area of Mount Calcinera.

According to some witnesses present on the spot, the accident was followed by an explosion, which caused a large fire.
