The newborn baby left this morning in the thermal cradle of the parish of San Giovanni Battista, in the Poggiofranco district of Bari , will be called Maria Grazia . «When the carabinieri asked me what I wanted to call her, I answered Maria Grazia, like the Madonna who I hope will accompany this little girl for her whole life », says the parish priest, Don Antonio Ruccia, who welcomed her into his arms.

The little girl was left around 7.20am today and it was Don Antonio Ruccia who found her, alerted by the sensor which made his cell phone ring. The baby, born a few days ago, is in good health and is now hospitalized in the Neonatology department of the Bari Polyclinic for checks .

The baby appears to have been left very discreetly in the crib. «Not even the door of the building looking at the cubicle with the cradle noticed anything», reports the priest, highlighting that « for two days I found the cradle open. It can mean everything or nothing but I imagine the courage and pain of those who left the little girl ."

As per practice, Don Antonio has filed a complaint and the Juvenile Court will be alerted .

The cradle, which has existed since 2014, was used for the first time in July three years ago when a child, later baptized with the name Luigi, was left by his parents. Next to him there was a note on which the little boy's habits were noted. «This time, compared to three years ago, it was worse in terms of agitation and joy – says Don Ruccia –: when I heard my cell phone ring alerting me that there was something in the thermal cradle, my heart began to pound. That little girl, a few days before the Christmas of our Lord, gave me a gift: it is as if I had come into the world again ."

"The little girl was crying like a maniac - continues the parish priest - she was wearing a green onesie, a pink vest and a hat." "There was nothing else next to her: not a ticket, not a change."
