Based on available forecasts, the Department of Civil Protection has therefore issued a new weather alert that foresees, starting from the early hours of Thursday, widespread precipitation, which locally could also be very intense and accompanied by lightning, hailstorms and strong gusts of wind, in Piedmont, Liguria, Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany.
In light of the expected phenomena, the Department has assessed an orange alert for some areas of Liguria and Emilia-Romagna.
The province of La Spezia and several municipalities in Liguria have decreed the closure of schools. The decree from La Spezia was signed by the president of the province Pierluigi Peracchini, "to reduce the risk to students during the alert."
In the Savona area, flooding of streets and basements has been reported in the municipalities of Calice Ligure and Celle Ligure, where Mayor Marco Beltrame has launched an appeal "to keep children in school on the first floor this afternoon until further notice".
