There are two confirmed victims of the avalanche that broke out this morning in Val Formazza. The bodies of the two ski mountaineers were identified by the rescuers also thanks to the dog unit brought to the scene by the Azienda Zero Piemonte helicopter. One, immersed in the snow, was extracted; the second was located in Lake Toggia: operations were difficult due to bad weather.

The dead are a 30-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man. They are Vanessa Gatti, from Saronno (Varese), and Roberto Biancon, from Legnano (Milan).

The alarm was raised around 12 by the guardians of the Toggia lake dam who reported having seen two people swept away by the avalanche.
