They tried until the very end to save her and the baby she was carrying. But for Andreea Mihaela Antochi, the 30-year-old of Romanian origin who died four days ago at the Policlinico San Matteo in Pavia , there was nothing they could do. The cause of the woman's death could have been an embolism from amniotic fluid . A hypothesis that will have to be confirmed in the autopsy scheduled for Monday, December 23.
Lawyer Ferdinando Mauro Miranda, the lawyer of Florin Catalin Lovin, Andreea's husband, has appointed a gynecologist, a pathologist and a medical examiner who will be present at the autopsy to represent the family. Experts from the Pavia Public Prosecutor's Office and San Matteo will also be present. While waiting for the autopsy, the investigation that began following the complaint filed by the woman's husband continues .
The Prosecutor's Office, which has acquired all the medical documentation on the case, is identifying the doctors and nurses at work on the night between Monday 16 and Tuesday 17 December, when the death occurred. The hypotheses of the crime are manslaughter and negligent liability for death in a healthcare setting. The investigators are maintaining the utmost confidentiality on the case but the notices of investigation addressed to some healthcare workers are already ready. According to what has been reconstructed so far, the mother suffered serious symptoms of respiratory failure during the long labor and went into cardiac arrest. The doctors tried to revive her, an attempt that lasted about an hour, but without success. From there the desperate attempt to save at least the baby, resorting to a cesarean section. Another attempt was in vain.
