The 56-year-old man wanted by the Carabinieri on suspicion of stabbing his 51-year-old wife, seriously injuring her, had been released from prison a few weeks ago, where he was being held for property crimes. She had decided to separate.

The attack occurred on the street, in front of a shop, where the man reportedly arrived on a scooter. There was an argument: the victim sought shelter in the shop, but was approached and stabbed several times. The man abandoned the scooter and the weapon he had used, a kitchen knife, at the scene and fled on foot.

The 51-year-old was rescued and transported to Cannizzaro Hospital in Catania, where she underwent delicate surgery for the wounds to her chest, neck, abdomen, and upper and lower limbs. A multidisciplinary team of doctors, including specialists in general surgery, thoracic surgery, and vascular surgery, operated on her.

Cardiac surgery was also necessary, so the woman was transferred to the Morgagni Clinic. Carabinieri from the Provincial Command's Forensic Investigation Section arrived on site to conduct investigations , recovering the weapon used in the attempted femicide and a jacket.

The Carabinieri investigation is being coordinated by Deputy Prosecutor Liliana Todaro, who coordinates the Catania magistrates' team that deals with crimes against vulnerable groups.
