Ambush in Reggio. Francesca Romeo, a 67-year-old doctor serving at the medical guard of Santa Cristina in Aspromonte, was shot dead.

The woman was returning to the car after finishing her shift, she was with her husband Antonio Napoli, 66 years old, also a doctor, who was grazed in the arm .

According to what emerged, two people hiding in the surrounding land fired at the car near a sharp bend on the road that connects Santa Cristina to Taurianova. They fired a rifle from the front, breaking the windshield. The man was driving, who stopped the ride a few dozen meters later.

The victim was originally from Seminara, where she lived with her husband, originally from Locri.

Investigators from the Reggio Calabria flying squad also intervened at the site of the ambush and carried out the initial investigations and are trying to reconstruct the dynamics of the event into which an investigation has been opened by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Palmi.

Investigators are trying to understand the context in which the crime occurred. From the very first hypotheses, all to be verified, the hypothesis of an event linked to organized crime would seem to be excluded . But the investigations are just beginning. However, according to what transpires from investigative circles - in light of the findings carried out - the woman was undoubtedly the target of the ambush. The distance from which the rifle shot was fired "did not allow for errors". The shot pierced the windshield on the passenger side. A second shot was fired from the side, again towards the passenger. Meanwhile, the husband's interrogation has concluded. The prosecutors - regarding the outcome of the interview - maintain maximum confidentiality.
