He had been missing for over two months and his body was found yesterday under an avalanche in Val di Funes . The body is that of Chinese student Peng Huang, born in 1997, found in the snow near the Mezdì pass by a group of ski mountaineers from Austria and Germany. However, initial investigations have revealed that the young man was not caught in an avalanche: his body was found in the fetal position , a detail that suggests death may have been due to hypothermia or exhaustion.
The South Tyrolean Mountain Rescue Service (CNSAS) clarified this, speculating that the body was not located during the various searches due to the heavy snowfall that had completely covered it. When the body was found, it was lying next to an avalanche that had occurred in recent days, but there were no signs of direct involvement. It is likely that a wild animal reported the location, digging in the snow and attracting the attention of some ski mountaineers passing by.
Thanks to the camera found next to the young man, it was also possible to reconstruct with a high degree of probability the victim's route, the CNSAS reports.
