An explosion with subsequent fire took place this morning inside a house in Sant'Urbano (Padua) due to a probable gas leak.

A woman of Romanian origin, Alina Crenicean, mother of two children, died, while the children and her husband were injured.

The explosion took place just before 8. When the firefighters arrived, who had come from Este, Rovigo and Padua, the father with the two children was already outside the house .

Rescue teams began extinguishing operations, while other operators equipped with self-contained breathing apparatus entered the house, finding the woman who was taken out. Despite the help, the doctor had to declare his death.

The children and the father were stabilized by the Suem health personnel. One of the minors was airlifted to hospital, the other two by ambulance.

Serious damage to the house with some perimeter walls demolished. Reclamation operations and investigations are now underway to determine the actual cause of the explosion.

From an initial reconstruction, the victim would have entered the kitchen early in the morning to prepare breakfast. Here he would have turned on the light or a stove, triggering the powerful explosion.
