The 22-year-old foreigner stabbed last night at Milan Certosa station died overnight at Fatebenefratelli Hospital. According to initial reports, the young man was attacked after a fight on the platform of platform 6. He was rescued and resuscitated by 118, then transported by ambulance with a red code. Railway police officers responded to the scene.
The attackers, about ten in number, surrounded the victim – Gianluca Ibarra Silvera, 22, with no criminal record, originally from Ecuador and employed in the exhibition sector – who was with his brother near platform 6.
The initial argument reportedly began on the platform, then escalated into a chase that culminated on the tracks, where the young man was struck several times in his limbs, causing serious injuries. Emergency responders resuscitated him on the scene and then, in desperate condition, transferred him to the hospital, where he died a few hours later. His brother, however, suffered only abrasions.
Investigators, along with the police, are trying to trace the group of young men—of South American origin—who fled and whether they are connected to gangs. Initial investigations, however, do not suggest an organized conflict.
