Strong earthquake in the afternoon, shortly after 4 pm, in Umbria .

The epicenter was recorded in the Umbertide area, in the province of Perugia .

The mayor of the city, Luca Carizia, reported that several people took to the streets and that the quake, of magnitude 4.4, was distinctly felt.

Checks were immediately launched to assess any damage, starting with the hospital and schools.

At the moment there are no reports of damage or injuries, although there are numerous calls from citizens to the firefighters.

The checks by the Civil Protection Department are still ongoing.

The quake was also distinctly felt in Florence .
