There are also two carabinieri among the people arrested today by the DDA of Rome as part of a maxi investigation into a 'Ndrangheta structure active on the Roman coast.

The two, currently one in prison and one under house arrest, are accused of having provided confidential information to members of the clan. One of the two soldiers is also contested for external competition in the mafia association.

Currently 65 people are accused of being part of the criminal group that allegedly took control of the territory on the coast south of the capital, infiltrating public administrations and managing international drug trafficking operations.

Some suspects are challenged for the mafia-type association. The operation took place in the early hours of dawn.

The searches also affected the municipal offices of Anzio and Nettuno and aim to acquire information on the infiltration of the organization in the two administrations and in particular on the activity related to waste disposal.

Depending on the position, the accusations of mafia association, an association aimed at international drug trafficking aggravated by the mafia method, are contested against the suspects. The prosecutors of the DDA, coordinated by the deputy prosecutors Michele Prestino and Ilaria Calò, also investigate for aggravated extortion and illegal possession of firearms, fictitious registration of goods and activities organized for the illicit trafficking of waste aggravated by the mafia method.

At the head of the criminal structure, a detachment of the 'ndrina of Santa Cristina d'Aspromonte (Rc), there are Giacono Mad Affari and other subjects belonging to historical families of' Ndrangheta originating from Guardavalle in the province of Catanzaro. A second clan was led by Bruno Gallace.
