"Today we can celebrate another milestone reached, which shortens the distance and propels us towards the long-awaited goal". Thus the regional councilor Michele Cossa, member of the Committee for Insularity, after the Constitutional Affairs Commission of the Chamber, after the go-ahead yesterday of that of the Budget, said yes to the Bill of popular initiative that introduces the principle of insularity, in art. 119 of the Constitution.

"We are carrying on with even more determination a battle that has seen an entire island deployed for the recognition of a right that we consider mandatory", continues Cossa. “With the green light of both committees of the Chamber, the way is paved for a calm and serene discussion in the Chamber of Deputies, which we hope will take place as soon as possible in the sign of positivity and for the good of Sardinia and the Sardinians. We remain convinced that in the end the peculiarity of the islands such as Sardinia will be recognized ".

On November 3, the Senate Chamber unanimously approved the popular initiative bill which collected 200,000 signatures to recognize the "serious and permanent natural disadvantage" of those who live in Sardinia.

Sardinia's request to Parliament: to eliminate the current structural disadvantages linked to insularity and to allow Sardinians to compete with all other Italian citizens with equal starting points. In fact, being an island entails enormous additional costs that must be compensated for in the name of national cohesion, with the aim of making the starting conditions equal for all Italian citizens.
