In Sardinia retail prices run more than in the rest of Italy. This is the denunciation of Adiconsum Sardegna, commenting on the definitive data on January inflation released by Istat.

While the Italian average of inflation is 4.8%, in the region retail price lists increased by + 5.4% in January. "This - explains Adiconsum - translates into a greater outlay, considering the annual consumption expenditure of a 'typical' family residing in Sardinia, equal to +1,436 euros per unit".

Worse than Sardinia are only Trentino Alto Adige, Valle d'Aosta and Sicily, with an inflation rate of + 6%, + 5.7% and + 5.5% respectively, while in Lombardy prices rise by +4.1 %, + 4.2% in Piedmont.

"The data released today by Istat show how Sardinia is penalized in terms of prices compared to other regions of Italy, with a more substantial growth in retail price lists which translates into direct damage to resident families - says the president by Adiconsum Sardegna, Giorgio Vargiu - Urgent interventions are needed to contain price growth, because the real risk is that Sardinian consumers react by reducing consumption, with devastating effects on the island's economy ”.
