Infinite Gregorio Paltrinieri . The blue champion won the 5 km open water competition of the European swimming championships which took place in the sea of Ostia.

For the 28 year old from Carpi it is the third medal in these European Championships , after gold in the 800 freestyle and silver in the 1,500. In the cross-country race it is an Italian double: Paltrinieri, who immediately took the lead and never gave up the first place, preceded the 27-year-old Domenico Acerenza .

The bronze medal was won by the Frenchman Olivier.

Also in the women's 5 km Italy climbs on the podium thanks to the bronze of Giulia Gabbrielleschi , preceded by the Dutch Sharon Van Rouwendaal, gold, and by the Spanish Maria De Valdes Alvarez, silver.

“The first two laps were good, in the third there was a bit of the sea and you could feel it, but it was super nice”, commented Paltrinieri.
