The shortage of personnel with high digital skills also affects Sardinia where digitally qualified employees are increasingly difficult to find, especially when it comes to working in the world of artificial intelligence.
There are 17,720 workers missing on the island: 7,750, 43.7%, are very difficult to find. This is stated in the report from the Research Office of Confartigianato Imprese Sardegna, which reworked the UnionCamere, Anpal and Excelsior data for 2023.
The race towards the digital transition for artisan businesses is held back by the difficulty of finding trained and certified staff: "The shortage of staff with the right skills slows down the ecological and digital transitions and is indicated as the most serious problem by SMEs in our region - comment by Giacomo Meloni and Fabio Mereu, president and deputy vice president of Confartigianato Sardegna - for companies the difficulty in finding qualified workers far outweighs the problems of bureaucracy, access to credit and unfair competition. The competitiveness of small entrepreneurs is also at stake, committed to using AI with artisanal intelligence to enhance the Made in Italy quality of their production".
«The lack of specialized personnel is a problem that cuts across every sector of the Sardinian economy - continue Meloni and Mereu - but it is most felt in those sectors that are pushing towards innovation. We need to insist on collaboration with schools so that these figures are trained. But cultural action on families is also needed, in particular with regards to the choice of study paths."
According to the report by Confartigianato Sardegna, artificial intelligence is used by small entrepreneurs especially for IT security needs, control of access to places, data or services, maintenance of machinery and vehicles, optimization of the use of energy and raw materials , waste treatment and logistics management, automation of production processes and accounting and finance applications, automation of online sales functions of goods and services and applications in prevention, diagnostics and medical care.
