"If the child knows Sardinian today, he will learn English better tomorrow". This is what Antonella Sorace, full professor of Acquisitional Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh, one of the world's leading academic authorities in terms of language learning has argued for years, who will close the conference "Alas impestadas non bolant - Criticism" on Saturday afternoon in Quartu Sant'Elena and hopes of Italian minority languages at the time of Covid-19 ". The appointment is set at the former Capuchin convent, with work starting at 9.30: Slovenian, Friulian, Ladin, Arbereshe and Scotland-speaking guests are expected.

It organizes the cultural association Sa Bertula Antiga, directed by the Municipality of Quartu and financed by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia and the Department of Regional Affairs of the Presidency of the Council.

The works will last for the whole day, with a "queue" dedicated to music scheduled for the evening.

The occasion of the appointment is the UNESCO Mother Language Day, which is celebrated around the world in remembrance of the episodes dating back to 21 February 1952, when several Bengali students of the University of Dhaka were killed while protesting for the recognition of Bengali as official language.

The initiative is part of the "Su sardu in Cuartu" enhancement program, which also offers a language help desk, training courses, business assistance, promotion in schools and the relaunch of the library of linguistic minorities in the city of Quartu.
