The Italian Federation of newspaper publishers, the National Association of Municipalities and the main trade unions of newspaper retailers have signed a memorandum of understanding which aims to protect newsstands and safeguard their function in order to create a network of services to favor of citizens.

In short, the future is represented, taking advantage of the widespread presence in the territories, by the provision of services on behalf of the municipal administrations and by the expansion of the products that customers can buy in newsstands.

Andrea Riffeser Monti, president of Fieg, exalted the role and importance of newspaper sales: “They constitute the natural and privileged place for access to information. To ensure that citizens meet the newspaper and access information, newsstands are needed open in all neighborhoods and in all countries, modern and functional capable of attracting potential readers while also offering additional services ".

“Safeguarding newsstands - added Andrea Innocenti, Snag-Confcommercio president - does not only mean giving support to newsagents: it is an act that has a strong political, social and cultural significance. Defending newsstands means defending the pluralism of information on paper. Defending newsstands means defending the constitutionally guaranteed right of citizens to receive information throughout the national territory, even in the most disadvantaged areas ".
