Cagliari is preparing to welcome the men's under 21 volleyball world championship.

Thursday 23 September, at the Palazzetto dello Sport in via Rockefeller, the boys of the Italian national team coached by Angiolino Frigoni will face Thailand.

The next day, on the 24th, it is the turn of the match against Egypt. On 25 September it will be the turn of the battle with the Czech Republic, again at 7 pm.

"It is a high-level event that brings prestige to the city and great opportunities, in terms of attendance, of athletes, of spectators who come to see these sporting events, bringing economic resources to the area", said Mayor Paolo Truzzu speaking at the press conference. presentation of the event hosted this morning in the headquarters of the Foundation of Sardinia.

In addition to the sports federations, the thanks of the mayor Truzzu went to the Sardinia Region, in particular to the councilor for tourism Gianni Chessa.

"He has done an extraordinary job this year - underlined Truzzu - dedicating many resources to sporting events that have also made it possible to animate the city. Cagliari in this part of summer and early autumn has become one of the national and international centers because it has hosted many important sporting events ".

"We started in July with cycling, basketball at the end of August, the Primavera Cup which saw over eight hundred athletes engaged in the waters of the Gulf of Cagliari, the Word Padel Tour and ju jitsu which brought another six hundred athletes. Now let's continue with volleyball and then there will be others ".

Organized by Italy and Bulgaria between Sofia, Cagliari and Carbonia, where Argentina, Morocco, Belgium and Iran will compete, in Sardinia there will be two of the four groups of the first qualifying phase. The other two groups will be played in Sofia instead.

After the first phase, the top two in each group will move on to phase 2, in which the eight teams still in competition will be divided into two additional groups of four. The first two will face each other in the crossed semifinals, while the last two will compete for placements from 5th to 8th. The third and fourth classified of each grouping of the first phase, will instead form two other groups, and here the first two teams will face each other to establish the ranking from ninth to 12th place, while the last two to establish the placings from 13th to 16 °.

In Cagliari the semifinals and finals that will award the medals on the weekend of 2 and 3 October.

"U21 is a team that creates expectations. But our main goal - said Angiolino Frigoni - is to do well and play as we know how to play".
